Exclusive Workshop Fosters Business Skills and Online Presence for Alaskan Indigenous Artisans
Haines, Alaska – October 16, 2023 – Voyij.com, an online marketplace dedicated to showcasing local art and artists across Alaska, is thrilled to announce the successful completion of a professional photography workshop and seminar with the Haines Chilkoot Indian Association, part of a 3-day business basics workshop coordinated by Spruce Root. Held from October 11-13 at the Haines Public Library, the workshop created a fun and energetic atmosphere for local and Indigenous artists to hone their business acumen, develop their art business, and gain professional exposure.
The workshop, coordinated by Helen Alten of the Chilkoot Indian Association, was a part of Voyij.com’s ongoing commitment to support Alaskan Native artists and share the joy of Alaska by connecting travelers with authentic local products.
As part of the workshop schedule, Voyij.com offered a seminar led by the mother-daughter team, Rosemary and Olivia Klupar from Skagway. The duo shared insights and experience on how to develop local art for the Alaska visitor and cruise industry and strategies for reaching millions of shoppers interested in Alaska.
Over the course of the week, 152 professional photos were taken of 52 local and Native art pieces, from sea otter and beaver fur hats and scarves to Northwest Coast totemic block prints and sterling silver jewelry. 7 local artists participated, each boasting a polished online presence complete with a portfolio of product images and an artist portrait.
"It was wonderful working with Olivia and Voyij” said Helen Alten, Executive Director of Chilkoot Indian Association. "Everyone told me they wanted more time with their team. Midge McClellan said it was exactly what she needed!”
