Voyij.com and Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska Host Business Photography Program for Indigenous Artists.
Juneau, Alaska –November 27, 2023- Voyij.com, in collaboration with the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, successfully conducted a 3-day photography program for Indigenous artists during Tlingit Haida’s annual Indigenous holiday market from November 24 to 26 at the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall in Juneau, Alaska.
The photography program, held concurrently with the Juneau Public Market, was a unique initiative designed to empower Indigenous artists by offering free professional photography of local products and supporting marketing and awareness efforts for Alaska Native artists and products.
Olivia Klupar, CEO of Voyij.com, expressed her enthusiasm about the photography program: "This event was a groundbreaking opportunity for Indigenous artists to learn, grow, and showcase their talents on a global stage. Our partnership with Tlingit Haida reflects our commitment to fostering the rich traditions and entrepreneurial spirit of Alaska's Indigenous communities."
During the weekend, 230 products from 18 artists were photographed, and 568 professional photographs were taken. From sea otter fur hats and totemic sterling silver jewelry to woven cedar bark baskets and bracelets and locally sourced salves and soaps, a diversity of products was represented from across the region.
A follow-up workshop is being offered on February 15, 2024, in Juneau, Alaska, where tribal citizens will receive additional hands-on training in various aspects of art business management, including marketing, online sales strategies, and brand building.
JC Cowan, Tribal Development Manager at the Central Council of Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes said "Holy smokes, the photography program in November appears to be a great success. That is a ton of photos! I’m excited to look through all the links. This is starting to become one of my favorite partnerships, I look forward to seeing you on February 15th too.”
