Bracelets with a story to tell™

Harvest Bracelet Inspiration: Fall in Alaska is usually pretty short.  When we lived in the Bush, if you blinked, you’d miss it entirely.  Here in Southcentral, fall is a bit longer.

It rains a lot, and then it rains some more.   Fall days typically have gray skies with constant drizzle.  The nip in the air gives way to what’s coming!

The colors are spectacular, especially on sunny days, which are few and far between.  At times, the colors look like highlighters that have leaked they’re so bright.

Gold is our primary color with the cottonwoods and birch all turning  beautiful gold.  The leaves of the Fireweed turn a bright orange, deep red, or even purple.  The wildflower leaves turn beautiful orange and rust color.

There’s just something so special about all the color Alaska enjoys in summer and fall because for about 7-8 months out of the year, we live in a black and white world.

Most people find it fascinating, if not unbelievable, that Southcentral Alaska is full of farmland.  Many things grow here, and they grow very well!  Potatoes, all the brassicas, pumpkins and squash, herbs, lettuce, greens, etc.

Fall is primetime harvest season, not only for the large farms, but also for all of us residential farmers, too.

We have three gardens, plus raised beds, plus a hoop house, and a mini orchard!  Bernie and I are busy picking, pulling, and preserving right now.

Alaskan Interpretation:  I represented our fall gray skies and drizzle with Gray Saucer Wood beads.

The Orange Glass beads represent the beautiful orange and rust colors typically found closer to the ground.

I added in a couple of Gold Druzy beads, and then quite a few Brass beads to represent the glimmer of colors we enjoy, especially on those sunny days.

This is a stretch bracelet to fit most wrists.
